What if the perfect dog just magically appeared one day?

"Doodles" are a new breed of dog that many people believe are a magical combination. It is the cross breeding of a Golden Retriever or a Labrador with a Standard or Miniature Poodle. This combination created a special kind of dog with Retriever attributes of being a dedicated, easy tempered working dog for the disabled as well as a spectacular family pet with the added benefits of the superior intelligence and non shedding attributes of the Poodle. Abracadabra, Abracadoodle! You have a DOODLE! "Doodles" are winning hearts all over the world.

There are all kinds of Doodles and they come in many colors and different sizes. They can have a hair, fleece or wool coats. That is part of the “magic.” But don’t forget the most important element is the temperament exemplifying the attributes of both breeds.

Labradoodles receive their heritage from the Labrador Retriever and the Poodle. The story began in 1988 when a manager of Guide Dogs, was in Hawaii on holiday and met 'P'. She told him of her dream to have a Guide Dog but this remained unfulfilled because of her husband's allergy to dog hair. She had heard that Standard Poodles had been trained for Guide Dog work in Australia and asked if their was any chance that this could be tried again.

Thus began the quest to find more non allergic dogs which could be trained for Guide Dog work. After a long and unsuccessful search for a suitable Standard Poodle, Harley the Standard Poodle was mated with Brandy the female Labrador Retriever with a proven ability to produce Guide Dogs.

The hope was to produce the fine temperament of the Labrador with the non shedding coat of the Poodle. The result of the union was three very cute Labradoodles, Sultan, Sheik and Simon.  Most breeders breed 1st generation dogs. They do so to maintain hybrid vigour. The Labradoodle has the friendly nature and trainability of the Lab, and the intelligence of the Poodle.

Goldendoodles are a hybrid dog produced by breeding a Golden Retriever with a Poodle. The size and color of the puppies depends on the size and colors of the parent dog backgrounds. Golden Retrievers vary in coat shades from light, to medium golden, and copper-reds. Poodle coats can be white, cream, apricot, golden, red, chocolate or black! The texture can be curly, tight curls, slightly curly or just plain silky.

Goldendoodle size is determined mainly by the Poodle parent being either a Standard Poodle or a Miniature Poodle. Also, some Golden Retrievers are bred for larger size than "breed standard."

So, a Goldendoodle puppy could grow up to be:

Weight:	50-75 lbs. (Standard Poodle crosses) 25-50 lbs. (Miniature Poodle crosses)
Size:	Depends on Poodle size crossed with Golden Retriever Miniature: up to 21" - Standard: 22"-27" (shoulder heights)
Color:	White, cream, gold, red, apricot, brown, light brown, black
Coat:	Tight curls, medium curls, silky coat, or a combination!
